When the Grammy
nominated, Dove Award winning Crabb Family disbanded after a 12-year
ministry in 2007, Adam Crabb knew that his calling in music ministry
could not be abandoned in the process. With his sister Terah, two
former members of the award winning Crabb Family Band (guitarist
Zach Smith and drummer Micah Schweinsberg) and his cousin (bassist
Jedidiah Richardson), Adam and the band took their desire to serve
God into a new era of Crabb ministry. In 2008, Zach’s wife
(Amanda Smith) joined the group to blend her vocals with the band’s
tight harmonies, and in 2009, Terah left the road to spend more
time with her family. Carrying on some Crabb Family traditions,
and incorporating a sound appreciated by a younger audience as
well, Crabb Revival debuted their first release “Runaway
Train” in June 2008. Their sophomore release, debuting in
2009, is a CD/DVD combination, “Live at Oak Tree Studio,” an
innovative project of live studio recordings.
“Our goal,” says Adam, “is
to reach our generation. We are praying for bigger doors
to open and more opportunities to reach them with the Gospel
than ever before.” “The cool thing,” adds Zach, “is,
though we love to play and our concerts are high-energy,
we are not just a ‘jam band.’ We use the talents
God gave us as tools to worship, praise, and lift up His
name. The Bible states very clearly that if we lift Him
up and exalt Him, He will draw ALL men to Him.” Though
Crabb Revival has come into their own, with a Dove Award
nomination, a Breakthrough Artist Award,
Gospel Music Channel’s Genre Winner for 2008 Album
of the Year, an Honorable Mention in All Genres, and many
other individual award nominations, that is not where their
vision lies. Seeing 180 inmates come to Christ during their
concert at Washington Prison, and leading over 2000 more
to Christ during their concerts around the U.S. their first
year, is what band members envision for Crabb Revival’s
future. Micah adds, “If our goal is to have something
pretty sitting on a shelf, we will never be satisfied, but
if God can use us to change people’s lives, we will
have eternal satisfaction.”
Jedidiah
elaborates, “We, who have received a gift from Him,
should also be His hands, to sew it into good ground, by
planting the Gospel into the hearts of men with the gift
He has given us. That’s what Crabb Revival is trying
to do.”

What
they're saying . . .
Quotes from around the country |
"Recently we had the privilege of having
Adam Crabb (Crabb Revival) here at Christ Temple Church in Huntington,
WV. Over the years, we have had some of the greatest names in Christian
music although we don't have musical guests that often. None have
had a greater impact on our church than the ministry of Adam Crabb
(Crabb Revival). The transparency and genuine warmth that was conveyed
made our congregation feel at ease and ready to receive from this
powerful ministry immediately. When you combine that level of talent
with an obvious sincerity, any pastor would be comfortable opening
the pulpit of the church up to such a credible ministry. What Adam
Crabb (Crabb Revival) imparted to our church will be felt for a
long time to come. We don't use the word "anointed" casually
because it is not to be taken lightly. We would highly recommend
the anointed ministry of Adam Crabb (Crabb Revival) to any church
looking for more than mere entertainment. This is the real thing."
Chuck Lawrence, Pastor of Christ Church Temple
“Before they splintered into different ministries, the Crabb
Family had become one of southern gospel's most popular groups by
blending both a respect for tradition with youthful, progressive
music sensibilities. Crabb Revival continues down that creative path.
The group – Adam Crabb, Terah Crabb Penhollow, Zach Smith,
Amanda Smith, Jedidiah Richardson and Micah Schweinsberg – created
a potent new album that appeased longtime Crabb fans hungry for
new music while establishing themselves as a vibrant new chapter
in the
family's musical legacy.”
Gospel Music Channel
“
Crabb Revival’s inaugural locomotion venture has strong
lyrics, good vocals, and a talented band of players. They
reflect their family traditions, but like a fast train, they
are not
afraid to jump the track at times to see where else they
may land.”
David Bruce Murray, Singing News Magazine
“
When the Crabb Family finally came off the road last year, many
wondered where each member would go and how their respected ministries
would take place. For Adam Crabb and Terah Crabb Penhollow -
it meant joining forces and forming Crabb Revival… Everything
on Runaway Train is still well within the “Crabb” sound
that we’ve all come to love. This is especially seen on
cuts like the strong “The Journey”, “Only a
Man”, “Ornament of Grace”, and the country-tinged “Both
Sides of the River”. The group also knows how to push the
boundaries as well - especially on the pop flavor of “Smiling
Down On Me” with its Avalon-styled background vocals. “You
Amaze Me” sounds like it was pulled straight from the Chris
Tomlin songbook, while “The Power of One” is not
unlike what you’d hear from MercyMe or Steven Curtis Chapman.
The most surprising track from the group will probably come from
the Southern-rock infused “Carry On”. The group is
great at it all, and they shouldn’t have any problem finding
a mix of fans. Vocally, they probably turn out some of their
best sounding material to date. Adam, especially, shines on the
tender ballad “Rescue Me.” It’s easy to see
that the legacy of the Crabb Family will remain firmly intact
in Crabb Revival. There’s no doubt that this group
will be around for a very long time.”
The Bridge Live, online "We
are so excited to welcome Crabb Revival to the Daywind family.
Their heart for ministry and immense talent will be
a blessing to so many in the coming years. What an opportunity
for us to be involved with a young group so rich in tradition,
yet with a fresh and vibrant sound, that will resound with
Crabb fans and new listeners alike."
Ed Leonard, President, Daywind Records “GospelMusicChannel.com is serious about covering Gospel
music in all its many forms, so we couldn’t be more excited
about presenting a Top Ten Best of 2008 list which represents
the incredible diversity and depth of Gospel music. In particular,
Crabb Revival’s Runaway Train showcases not only the
exceptional vocal and songwriting talents of the Crabb family,
but it also
underscores the fact that Southern Gospel as a genre is alive
and well with a new generation of Gospel music lovers.”
Philip Manwaring, VP of Digital Media, GMC
“
Daywind recording artist, Crabb Revival, was named among Gospel
Music Channel’s Top Ten Best of 2008 among all genres of
Christian music. Their recording, Runaway Train, with its diverse
musical approach and great Country and Southern Gospel flavor,
gave them the win in the Southern Gospel/Country category… They
are listed among successful artists from all genres of Christian
music, which makes this quite a remarkable accomplishment.”
Scott Evans, Editor, SG Music Forum “Great music begets great music, and a music lover's influences
and inspiration can come from a very solid foundation in old
school gospel - or simply from the family that ‘begat’ them
in the first place.
Through 20 years of laying the groundwork for gospel and Southern
gospel music to reach new heights, The Crabb Family saw doors
kicked off the hinge as God took their music to the masses
to change lives. They have seen nods from the Grammy’s
and the Dove Awards, and now with a makeover in sound and image,
they are reaching the next generation.
A year ago, what we've come to know as The Crabb Family disbanded.
But members of the family never lost their passion and fire
to use their talents to reach more lives with the musical truth
of God's love. Siblings Adam and Terah took up the torch laid
down by their family. They felt a calling to make a voice of
their own. Now singing as Crabb Revival, this is where a deep-voiced
announcer guy would say, "This is not your mother's Gospel
music."
The next generation of Crabb singers combs the gospel sounds
rooted in their DNA and weaves new sounds that show gospel
music has no limits.
Such songs as "Runaway Train" and "The Journey" reveal
how this next generation of Crabb music touches the hurt of
the world.”
Ace McKay, Huntsville Times, Huntsville, AL "Each group member of Crabb Revival is multi-talented and
an extraordinarily gifted musician and singer. They genuinely
care about people and have a self- sacrificing desire to make
a difference in peoples’ lives. Their example of caring
for people is to be admired."
Randy Catoe, General Manager, 100.9 The Cross WSTS, Fairmont,
NC “This
group is 100% about ministering! They have a great sound, and
an awesome spirit! Their personal testimonies of
trials to triumph are inspirational. My congregation fell in
love with
Crabb Revival. They showed my congregation an attitude of
worship. I highly recommend this alive group!”
